AGRICULTURE

Agriculture has traditionally defined the Whitman County economy. The richly endowed Palouse soil has created some of the highest yields for wheat in the U.S. The county ranks number one for wheat production in Washington state. The same holds true for barley, lentils and chick peas. This sections measures cover some of the most important dimensions of agriculture, including: acres farmed, net farm income and agricultural employment.
